Guitar practice songs written by AI for your level, strings and frets
The problem with practice material is that it is never quite right: the riff you found uses a string you have not learned, or the solo is three frets too wide. TabFollower can write a piece for the exact range you ask for, and check that it kept to it.
What you specify
- A style: chill, folk, moody, blues, rock or metal.
- A level from 1 to 5. Level sets the tempo, note density and which techniques are allowed; bends and slides only appear from level 4.
- The thinnest and thickest string the lead may use, and the lowest and highest fret.
- A length, and optionally the time signature and a one-line mood, such as "a slow, hopeful ending for a film".
What the checker enforces
Every piece is validated before it reaches your library: notes must lie inside the strings and frets you asked for, the lead has to actually use the range rather than hide on one string, bar counts and lengths must match, techniques must be allowed at the level, and the whole thing must be playable at the tempo. If a draft fails, the writer gets the exact problems back and fixes them. Nothing reaches you unchecked.
Two ways to get one
- In the app. Library, Create song, pick the options, and the piece appears under My songs in about thirty seconds. This is part of TabFollower Plus, which includes five songs a month and costs $4.99 a month through the App Store.
- Through your own AI. Plus subscribers can add the TabFollower plugin in ChatGPT, or TabFollower as a connector in Claude, and simply ask: "Compose a level 3 blues piece on strings 1 to 4, about two minutes, laid back." Your AI writes the tab, the same checker validates it, and the song lands on your iPad. That route allows twenty more songs a month, each up to five minutes.
What it sounds like
The app plays the piece with its own instruments: a chord guitar, bass and drums, humanised so they do not sound like a drum machine. The lead line is yours to play, though you can preview it synthesised to learn the melody first.
Try it on your iPad. TabFollower is a free iPad app for electric guitar: scrolling tab, a live backing band, and it hears every note you play through your iRig.
